Creating Quizzes| Top

Note: Before you can create quizzes, you must add Quizzes/Surveys to your course. For more information, see Adding a Page or Tool.

  1. From the Course Menu, click Quiz. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears.
  2. Under Options, click Create quiz. The Create Quiz screen appears.
  3. In the Title text box, enter the quiz title.
  4. Select whether you want to base the quiz on a template:
    • To base the quiz on a template, select Base this quiz on a template and from the Template drop-down list, select the quiz or survey that you want to use as a template.
    • To not base the quiz on a template, select Do not use another quiz or survey as a template.
  5. Click Create. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears and the quiz is added.

Note: For information on adding questions and specifying quiz availability, see Quiz and Survey Editor. For more information on the quiz and survey list that appears on the Quizzes/Surveys screen, see The quiz and survey list.

Creating Surveys | Top

Note: Before you can create a survey, you must add Quizzes/Surveys to your course. For more information, see Adding a Page or Tool.

  1. From the Course Menu, click Quiz. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears.
  2. Under Options, click Create survey. The Create Survey screen appears.
  3. In the Title text box, enter the survey title.
  4. Select whether you want to base the survey on a template:
    • To base the survey on a template, select Base this quiz on a template and from the Template drop-down list, select the quiz or survey that you want to use as a template.
    • To not base the survey on a template, select Do not use another quiz or survey as a template.
  5. Click Create. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears and the survey is added.

Editing Quizzes or Surveys

Once you have created a quiz or survey, you can add questions, and edit how and when the quiz or survey is made available to students.

  1. From the Course Menu, click Quiz. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears.
  2. Locate the quiz or survey you want to edit and click its title. The Quiz Editor or Survey Editor screen appears.

Accessing the Question Database | Top

The Question Database contains all of the questions used in your course's quizzes and surveys. When you create a question, it is saved in the Question Database.

  1. From the Course Menu, click Quiz. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears.
  2. Click Question Database. The Question Database screen appears.

Adding Labels | Top

To provide students with a clearer understanding of how quizzes relate to course components, organize the list of quizzes and surveys by using labels.

Example: Group quizzes under labels that reflect the units in a course.

  1. From the Course Menu, click Quiz. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears.
  2. Under Options, click Create label. The Create Label screen appears.
  3. In the Title text box, enter the label title.
  4. Click Create. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears and the label is added to the top of the list of quizzes and surveys.

Editing Label, Quiz, or Survey Titles

  1. From the Course Menu, click Quiz. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears.
  2. Under Options, click Edit titles. The Edit Titles screen appears with a list of all labels, quizzes and surveys. Note: The text box numbers for label titles appear in bold.
  3. Locate the titles you want to edit and, in the text boxes, enter the new label.
  4. Click Update. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears and the titles are edited.

About the Quiz and Survey List | Top

  • Title: Each quiz or survey is identified by a title, which you specify when you create the quiz or survey. To change the title, click the title of your quiz or survey. The Quiz/Survey Editor screen appears. For more information, see Quiz and Survey Editor.
  • Availability: Each quiz has a start and end date specified by From and To in the Availability column. If no start date has been specified, then the Availability column contains Unavailable. If there is a start date but no end date, then Unlimited appears in the Availability column. To adjust the availability settings, click the quiz or survey title. The Quiz/Survey Editor screen appears. For more information, see Quiz Settings.
  • Duration: This indicates the length of time that is available to students to complete the quiz or survey. To change the time, click the quiz or survey title. The Quiz/Survey Editor screen appears. For more information, see Quiz Settings .
  • Points (quizzes only): This indicates the total points available for the quiz, as specified in the Quiz/Survey Editor. For more information, see Quiz and Survey Editor.
  • Results: This column contains two buttons for surveys and four buttons for quizzes:
    • Submissions opens the Submissions screen. This screen provides you with information on the number of students who have completed the quiz or survey. For more information, see Grading Quizzes.
    • Detail opens the Detail screen. This screen provides you with information on student performance in a quiz. For more information, see Details, Statistics, and Reports.
    • Reports (quizzes only) opens the Reports screen. This screen provides you with statistical reports for a quiz or survey. For more information, see Details, Statistics, and Reports.
    • Summary (quizzes only) opens the Summary screen. This screen provides detailed statistics on quiz or survey questions. For more information, see Details, Statistics, and Reports.

    Note: The four Results screens and the Quiz editor can also be accessed directly from within each Result screen.

Organizing the Quiz and Survey List| Top

You can arrange the appearance of quizzes, surveys, and labels in the quiz and survey list. You can:

Moving Items Up | Top
  1. From the Course Menu, click Quiz. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears.
  2. Select the item you want to move.
  3. Under Organize, from the Move item up by drop-down list, select the number of positions and click Go. The Quizzes/Surveys screen updates and the item is moved up by the specified number of positions.

Moving Items Down | Top
  1. From the Course Menu, click Quiz. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears.
  2. Select the item you want to move.
  3. Under Organize, from the Move item down by drop-down list, select the number of positions and click Go. The Quizzes/Surveys screen updates and the item is moved down by the specified number of positions.

Indenting Items | Top

Note: When you indent an item, a Collapse icon appears next to the item above it, allowing you to collapse the indented item into the item above. This allows you to further organize the items in the Quizzes/Surveys screen.

Example: If you have a large number of quizzes and surveys in your course, create a label for each unit in your course and group the related quizzes and surveys under their unit label. Under each label, indent the quizzes and surveys. You can now collapse the quizzes and surveys into their unit label, leaving only the current unit expanded, allowing for easier navigation of the quizzes and surveys list.

  1. From the Course Menu, click Quiz. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears.
  2. Select the item you want to indent.
  3. Under Organize, from the Indent drop-down list, select More and click Go. The Quizzes/Surveys screen updates and the item is indented.

Outdenting Items | Top

  1. From the Course Menu, click Quiz. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears.
  2. Select the item you want to outdent.
  3. Under Organize, from the Indent drop-down list, select Less and click Go. The Quizzes/Surveys screen updates and the item is outdented.

Customizing the Quizzes/Surveys Screen| Top

You can change the colors, background image, header, footer, banner, and counter that appear on the Quizzes/Surveys screen. Note: The colors that you set for the Quizzes/Surveys screen are used throughout Quizzes/Surveys, with the exception of the Quiz Editor or Survey Editor screen, which sets the colors for a specific quiz or survey.

Deleting Quizzes, Surveys, or Labels | Top

Warning: Deleting a quiz or survey also deletes all related student submissions. However, the grades for a deleted quiz are retained in Manage Students.

  1. From the Course Menu, click Quiz. The Quizzes/Surveys screen appears.
  2. Select the quiz, survey, or label you want to delete.
  3. Under Options, click Delete. A confirmation message appears.
  4. Click OK. A second confirmation message appears.
  5. Click OK. The Quizzes/Surveys screen updates and the selected quiz, survey, or label is deleted.
