Index for Homepage or Organizer Pages

When you or your students log in to WebCT for the first time, the first thing you see is the Homepage. In general, the Homepage looks the same for all types of users, except that the designer view is equipped with tools to construct, supplement, or modify your course.

From the Homepage you can:

  • add links to essential course components such as Content Modules, or Organizer Pages.
  • add links to tools such as Calendar or Syllabus.
  • build a Course Menu containing links to the most important elements of your course.
  • customize layout options to create textblocks that are informative and visually appealing.
  • navigate to any point in your course quickly and easily.
  • access myWebCT, Course Map, and online Help from the Menu Bar.

For users who are new to WebCT, we recommend that you use the Organizer Wizard. The wizard guides you, step-by-step, through the following tasks:

  • manage textblocks on the Homepage
  • select a background image and a banner image
  • modify the layout of the Homepage
  • customize the page colors on the Homepage

To access the wizard, click Use Organizer Wizard. For more information about wizards, see Course Design Center. Note: Depending on administrator settings, this feature may not be available to you.

Course Menu  | Top

The Course Menu is an editable menu that appears to you and your students. You add the links to the Course Menu through Add Page or Tool. Students can then use the links to gain access to Tools, Pages, or web sites that you have added to your course.

After you have added links to the Course Menu, you can edit them, hide or reveal them, or even move them to another page. You edit the Course Menu from Course Settings.

If you want to maximize screen space, you can temporarily hide the Course Menu by clicking the down-arrow. When the Course Menu is temporarily hidden, the links appear in a drop-down list. You can also permanently hide or reveal links on the Course Menu through Course Settings.

myWebCT Allows students to see a list of courses in which they are registered, and instructors to see a list of all the courses they are teaching.
Resume Course Allows students to resume their place in the Content Module.
Course Map Allows you and your students to view the structure of the entire course on one page. The course elements are links, which enable you to go to any place in the course from a single page. This tool simplifies navigation and is especially useful for courses with a large number of elements.
Check Browser Lists the browser you are using to access WebCT.
Log out Logs you out of the current WebCT session and returns you to the WebCT Entry page.
Help Links you to the context-sensitive online help.
View Displays the student view of the course.
Designer Options Provides access to the designer options.
Breadcrumbs Shows your location in the course and provides links to previous screens.
